Empowering Futures in Koboko, Uganda

Honoring the legacy of Rt Hon. Francis Joash Ayume, we are transforming lives through education, health, and opportunity. Together, we build hope and empower the next generation.

Our Story: Honoring a Legacy of Service

The F.J. Ayume Foundation was established in 2020 by Dr. Charles Ayume, in memory of his late father, Rt Hon. Francis Joash Ayume—former Speaker of Parliament and a champion for education and justice in Uganda. Our mission is to empower Koboko District by supporting education, women, and youth, and by fostering sustainable community development. Since inception, we have supported over 100 students, unveiled 87 graduates, and continue to uplift both host and refugee communities in West Nile.

Our Mission

To create a thriving, empowered, and equitable community in Koboko by addressing critical issues such as gender-based violence, community health, education, climate change, women empowerment, and entrepreneurship. We are committed to implementing sustainable programs and interventions that create meaningful and lasting impacts.

Grace Aninga
"I am Grace Aninga from Teremunga village, Teremunga ward, North Division Koboko. I am both a registered Nursing Officer and an Anaesthetic Officer. Dr Charles Ayume encouraged me to transfer my service to Koboko in 2016 since there was a shortage of nurses. He connected me to Intra Health and I took study leave to train as an Anaesthetic Officer in 2017. I completed in 2019 and came back to serve my people of Koboko in the theatre department and this has reduced referrals, in addition to saving lives. To my fellow youth, study hard, work hard and be ready to be deployed anywhere. I thank God for blessing me with the right people and the right opportunities."

"Am L/ cpl Dr Wani Geofrey from South Division koboko municipality... All these journeys as much as long and appearing difficult by God's grace and support from Ayume family ohhh am finally here after taking long route of studies. To our parents and my fellow youth, it's not bad to make trial even if things seem difficult. We can start small and build on with help of mentors who are ready to support our dreams. I really thank the effort of Hon Dr Ayume in transforming youths through education and life mentorship."

Kalisum
"Kalisum started her journey pushing a mop through hospital corridors, working as a cleaner to support her family. But deep inside, she carried a quiet dream—to one day wear the uniform of a midwife. After studying and refusing to give up, Kalisum turned her dream into reality. Today, she walks the same halls not with a broom, but with purpose—delivering babies and offering hope. Her story is proof that with determination and hard work, no dream is too far to reach."

Yuma Justo
"My name is Yuma Justo. I am mostly known as Homeboy Juston for my Music Artistry. The game changer of my life as per concerns my burning desire and unquenchable thirst to continue with education was meeting Doctor Charles Ayume who fanned my dying flame when he secured me an opportunity to pursue a bachelor's degree in Disability Studies and Special Needs Education at Africa Renewal University. I am forever grateful for this opportunity and appeal to anyone else out there that there is nothing impossible in this life, you can lose anything else but never lose hope, never give up. You just need the right people in your life to help make your dreams come true."

Tailoring Business

Empowering Young Mothers

Amina, a young mother from a remote village, was able to re-enroll in school and start her own tailoring business after participating in our EmpowerHER initiative. She now supports her family and inspires other young women in her community. "The F.J Ayume Foundation gave me a second chance at life," she says.
